Portugal has banned the use of wild animals in circuses by 2024 with a new law passed by parliament and applauded by animal rights groups.⠀ ⠀ Lions, tigers, elephants, camels and zebras are among the more than 1,000 animals banned under the new law covering around 40 species.⠀ ⠀ Approved with support of both left-wing and right-wing lawmakers, the law brings Portugal in line with a dozen other countries including half of Europe which have banned wild animals in circus acts.⠀ ⠀ Until 2024, circus owners will have to list their wild animals on a register created by the government so they can eventually be placed in wildlife shelters in Portugal or overseas. Scotland became the first nation in the world to guarantee free sanitary products to all students at schools, colleges, and universities. It’s part of a £5.2 million ($6.7 million) government plan to fight “period poverty”—the problems faced by women who struggle to cover their basic needs while menstruating. In a recent survey, researchers determined that approximately one in four students at school, college, or university struggle to obtain period products. The Scottish government also says it intends to make period products free for everyone — not just students. Period poverty continues to be a serious global issue — one that can also lead to mental health issues, such as anxiety or depression. Hopefully more countries will take a step to fix this issue. Food waste is a huge, and expensive, global issue. France is way ahead of other countries thanks to a recent law that forces supermarkets to make use of unused food, rather than tossing it away. Supermarkets of a certain size must donate unused food to food banks or face a fine. Other policies require schools to teach students about food sustainability, companies to report food waste statistics in environmental reports, and restaurants to make take-out bags available. 🍎🥛🥗 Source: NPR ⠀ #thehappybroadcast #love #instagood #photooftheday #beautiful #happy #cute #followme #picoftheday #motivation #art #instadaily #friends #repost #nature #fun #style #illustration #inspiration #goodnews #art #artist #illustration #food #vegan #market #vegetarian #goodmorning #goodnews #france

In a landmark move, Norway’s government has agreed to ban all fur farming (there are approximately 200 fox and mink farms in the country) and have a total phase out by 2025. Almost 1,000,000 animal lives will be saved by Norway's ban on fur farming, according to animal rights charity PETA. 🦊✌ Source: The Telegraph ⠀ #thehappybroadcast #love #instagood #photooftheday #beautiful #happy #cute #followme #picoftheday #motivation #art #instadaily #friends #repost #nature #fun #style #illustration #inspiration #goodnews #fox #fur #norway #europe #me #vegan #mink #peta #animalrights
